Fitter Jobs description
A fitter is responsible for assembling structural frameworks and housings from materials, such as angle iron, plate steel, and I-beams, using hand tools and welding equipment. Following blueprint specifications, a fitter examines blueprints and materials list to obtain parts specifications and lays out parts dimensions using chalk line, square, and soapstone.The job may involve disassembly, cleaning, assembly, refurbishment, and test of a product. A mechanical fitter may be involved in assembling hydraulic, pneumatic, or other machine components. A electrical fitter is responsible for fitting of electrical equipment and wirings. A pipe fitter is involved in plumbing work and assembling of gas or water pipes in residential, commercial, or industrial settings. There are other fitter jobs such as that of window fitter, carpet fitter, tiles fitter, etc. Fitters may also be known as welders for some specific jobs.
A fitter job does not usually require any specific qualifications; some employers may ask for a high school diploma, or a certificate/ diploma in construction related field. Fitting experience is an advantage for such jobs and may command upper level of the pay range.
