Driller Jobs description
A driller operates drilling machines to flush earth cuttings. Duties include blowing dust from holes; assembling and positioning machine, augers, and casing pipes; verifying depth and level of boring position; retracting auger to force discharge dirt from hole; starting, stopping, and controlling drilling speed of machine and insertion of casing into hole; and signaling crane operator to move equipment. A driller applies drilling methods and techniques, such as operating controls properly to lower bits safely into hole, manipulating controls to adjust engine power precisely to any drilling condition, and winching up the bit in alignment with the hole. A driller may also be required to drive trucks or tractors. A driller usually reports to the drilling superintendent or drilling engineer.A driller may not require any specific qualification, however basic knowledge of science is essential. Knowledge of drilling technology and HSE is an advantage. A driller must have knowledge of drilling machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance. A driller may require a CDL.
