CNC Machinist Jobs description
A CNC machinist is responsible for operating CNC machine equipment, and is required to produce machined parts through programming. A CNC machinist cuts, drills, shapes and finishes products and components by using data taken from technical drawings. The job involves selecting the right tools for each stage, and setting the cutting speeds and tolerance levels. Checking that work meets quality and technical standards is an important duty for a CNC machinist. CNC machinists generally are found working on metal though dealing with wood, composite materials, and plastics is also common. A CNC machinist generally reports to a manufacturing manager.A CNC machinist should be a highly skilled individual. Experience in setting up and running CNC machine equipment is required for most positions. Ability to apply basic concepts of algebra and geometry are essential. Ability to calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, depth and angle of cut, or enter commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media may be required. Basic to intermediate Math skills are essential. A CNC machinist must be able to read blueprints, set up machines, inspect parts, and perform line edits.
