The responsibilities of a blue collar machinist consist of performing all types of precision machine work i.e. manufacturing spare parts for manufacturing equipment, components for prototype assembly stations and machine tools, work from drawings, sketches and verbal instruction, evaluate work orders for accuracy, tooling, material availability and processing requirements, ensuring that tools and materials are available for upcoming work orders, ensuring all equipment and areas are properly cleaned and maintained in compliance with the company’s guidelines and standard procedures as well as managing personal time and resources to ensure that work orders are completed in time. A blue collar machinist has to work in coordination with engineers to design and develop parts and prototypes.

He/she has to read, interpret and understand all types of blue prints and machine drawings; both standard and metric as well as collaborate with the machine shop coordinator to assure the availability of material and tools and develop dyes, jigs, and fixtures required to manufacture the parts. This position of a blue collar machinist demands the ability to use various precision measurement devices and techniques as well as proficiency in general machine operations and applications with experience in this domain.
