Milwaukee county workers are fighting back against potential job cuts.

Four hundred county workers held a rally Wednesday evening in front of the Milwaukee County Courthouse. They are concerned they could soon be losing their jobs.

The union workers directed their anger at County Executive Scott Walker, who may cut 300 jobs.

"His plan to cut county government and privatize jobs is not acceptable," said Rich Abelson, head of District Council 48 of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees.

Walker's 2009 county budget calls for more than $4 million in cuts, including 48 maintenance worker jobs. Walker says an upcoming county referendum to raise the county's sales tax by 1% won't cut it with Milwaukee residents.

“The economy is tough, and the last thing they want when the economy is tough is a $130 million sales tax increase,” Walker said.
