At a time when the area couldn’t need it more, Global of India has announced plans to build a one-of-a-kind facility in Minnesota’s Iron Range.
Nashwauk, Minnesota, is the site of what will be the only “ore-to-steel” operation in North America. With an increase in demand for steel, the plant will boast
all phases of steel working, from mining to mill work.
The monstrous, $1.6 billion-dollar, five year project will require 2,000
construction workers in Minnesota. Upon completion, the operations of the plant will bring about 500-700 jobs to Nashwauk.
With an upswing in demand in the marketplace, primarily in China, India, and other countries on the rise, the steel industry had seen an end to a 25-year lull in demand for ore.
Global of India’s plans for the operation in Minnesota not only define the future of the mining and steel industry, but the future of the people of the Iron Range and its economy.
