Keystone RV Company announced it is laying off nearly 10% of its workforce due to the poor economy and normal fall decreases in production. The layoff is expected to affect 290 employees of the Goshen, Indiana-based company. The cuts will hit all of Keystone’s 15 manufacturing plants throughout Northern Indiana.
Keystone RV president Ron Fenech says waning consumer confidence forced the company into the seasonal layoffs that they were usually able to avoid.
However, there are signs of hope for Keystone. Retail sales for the first seven months of the year are down less than 10%.
This layoff comes on the heels of another major layoff by a similar company. Monaco Coach Corporation announced last month it planned to close three factories and cut 1,400 jobs.
