On Tuesday, employees at Reynolds American Inc. learned about Reynolds’ plan to downsize its workforce.
By September, Reynolds wants to do away with the jobs that are insignificant to its economic growth.
To determine which jobs will stay, Reynolds will analyze targeted jobs.
Salary-based employees at Winston-Salem have been given the opportunity to have their job analyzed to see if they can opt for severance or early retirement agreements.
However, this does not mean that they will definitely be given the option. In addition, it also does not assure employees who refrain from having their jobs analyzed that their jobs will not be taken away. Ultimately, this means that involuntary job cuts may occur.
It is reported that Reynolds does not have an exact number to eliminate, but that they should have an estimate after the analysis.
The state’s budget deficit, increased cigarette taxes, and more public places banning smoking are just some of the factors that are being considered in the analysis.
Overall, Reynolds is taking precautionary measures to ensure that it is economically secure in the future.
