General Description of Position:

Provide support to the faculty who have student experiences in the nursing labs and simulation. Provide for the installation, maintenance, programming, and operation of high technology patient simulators, lower technology task trainers, clinical equipment and related information technology and multimedia equipment used in nursing and interprofessional education.

Supervisor: Nursing Department Chair and Dean, School of Nursing and Simulation Coordinator

Major Responsibilities:

Manage and maintain lab and simulation supplies working in conjunction with faculty and staff.

Manage, and maintain the storage areas for the labs and simulation.

Prepare the lab for lab and simulation experiences, including manikins and all materials needed for the laboratory and simulation experiences.

Assist with simulation experiences in terms of equipment and computer management.

Clean up labs and simulation areas upon completion of student experiences.

Secure storage areas and labs upon completion of labs.

Maintain and troubleshoot manikins and equipment in the labs.

Manages & maintains simulation lab supplies

Performs pre-simulation activities

Assists with simulation scenarios

Performs post-simulation activities

Serves as a professional role model for students in dress, communication, deportment, problem solving, care delivery and patient advocacy to facilitate student’s socialization into the profession.

Networks with IT and other simulation technicians in the region/state/nation.

Conduct all activities with an appreciation and respect for diversity of people, styles, and views.

Promote same as an integral part of one's work.

Other responsibilities and duties as assigned.

I. SKIILLS AND ABILITIES

1. Maintain professional skills and refine expertise through appropriate educational/developmental activities and professional affiliations, staying current with national and international advances in simulation and clinical skills activities.

2. Demonstrate excellent organizational skills and ability to think logically and follow directions

3. Support daily operations of clinical learning lab.

4. Ability to work with, and provide technical support to, students and faculty while utilizing computers and available technology through use of Microsoft Office programs- Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Simulation Software, Audio/Visual software, Network and IT environments, Electronic Health Record systems, and other various and changing technology.

5. Focus on student engagement and success

6. Assure facility and equipment are organized and prepared for teaching sessions by preassembly of props, moulage, learning materials, and documentation

7. Assure operation of simulators, digital cameras, video cameras, audio/video mixer, monitors, LCD projectors, and other equipment related to simulation education.

8. Program patient scenarios

9. Pre-brief students, staff, and faculty

10. Operate simulation console and software, debriefing equipment, and human patient simulator

11. Record simulation activities in approved format (.mov, .flv, .avi, .mp4, .wmv)

12. Assist faculty in managing recording equipment

13. Assist faculty in monitoring students’ safety

14. Provide theatrical support (including moulage and voice over)

15. Lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds

II. RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

1. Maintain proficiency in existing and emerging technologies

2. Exhibit creativity and flexibility in designing innovative approaches to solving problems

3. Demonstrate commitment to utilizing simulation methodology in learning and its ability to transform nursing education

4. Salvage re-usable supplies and repackage

5. Monitor supplies; inform simulation coordinator when supplies are needed

6. Conduct routine equipment maintenance

7. Provide feedback for improving simulation experience to the simulation coordinator

8. Maintain the Simulation Center as a clean, safe, and operational facility and optimal learning environment

III. INSTITUTIONAL SUPPORT

1. Provide institutional support as requested by college administration such as participation on committees and task forces, projects related to college and program accreditations, and grant-related projects.

2. Attend commencement and participate as assigned by regional administration.

3. Participate in college/service area/campus-wide meetings and departmental/division/faculty meetings.

4. Support Simulation Coordinator in program management activities.

5. Adhere to college and regional academic policies.

Minimum Qualifications:

Work or educational experience with simulation equipment, techniques and strategies.

Ability to work with various and changing technology.

Ability to work with Microsoft Office programs- Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Simulation Software, Audio/Visual software, Network and IT environments.

Lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 50 pounds

Must have strong working knowledge of current technologies appropriate to simulation lab. Associate or Bachelor degree OR 3 years’ equivalent work experience. Must be highly motivated and able to work in fast- paced environment. Must be able to work flexible schedule (early mornings, late evenings may be required). Must have excellent written and oral communication skills. Knowledge of medical terminology, Anatomy and Physiology preferred, Healthcare license or certification (LPN, RN, RT, EMT, Paramedic) preferred
