Profile

Stampede Ventures, INC. (SVI), a wholly owned subsidiary of Bering Straits Native Corporation (BSNC) is seeking an equipment mechanic. Performs general maintenance and repairs to a variety of heavy equipment in the shop utilizing departmental equipment as authorized and available to accomplish the work.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Performs work assignments on all types of mechanical equipment and or other equipment in a timely and efficient manner with a high level of quality.

Lift parts and equipment components that weigh a maximum of 70 pounds when assisting mechanics or working alone to make repairs to equipment.

Operate construction machinery being repaired in and out of shop service bays and test for performance.

Write accurate and legible Service Reports, read and comprehend blueprints, technical data and service manuals.

Use and understand proper test equipment to troubleshoot for needed repairs.

Project a positive company image with fellow employees, customers, and management; comply with company dress code.

Keep work area clean and orderly; follow all work safety rules and procedures.

Comply with all Contamination Control procedures.

Ensure accuracy of work orders by charging parts and labor to proper work order segments while using the computer.

Own and maintain sufficient hand tools to perform the job.

Keep up to date with developments in tooling, technologies and systems.

Required to work overtime when needed.

Accumulate contaminated dirt and filters in drums. Complete stock transfer and transport full drums by forklift to Hazardous Waste Storage area.

Work with hazardous waste and receive Hazardous Waste Training each year.

Perform other duties as directed

QUALIFICATIONS - EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND LICENSURE

Required:

High School diploma or equivalent GED certificate

Applicant is required to have five (5) years previous experience on diesel heavy equipment sufficient to provide competency in this skill area.

Valid Alaska Driver’s, CDL a big plus.

Must be able to clearly communicate (orally and written) in the English

Able to work independently and have good documentation and organizational skills.

Preferred:

Caterpillar Certification a strong plus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for bending, stooping, sitting, walking or standing for prolonged periods of time; working requirements are a combination of maintenance shop activities which require lifting, handling or moving up to 75 lbs, working in on top of or beneath vehicles or equipment on jacks/stands; and office settings for data entry and reporting. Proper wearing of Personal Protective Equipment is essential along with hearing protection when required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work Environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be borne by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

The work described herein is primarily active, performed in a maintenance shop setting. Walking and climbing will be required at work sites. The work environment involves risks or discomforts that require specific safety precautions typical of such places as vehicle and maintenance shop environments.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFYING FACTORS

As a condition of employment, may be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening, as well as have acceptable reference and background check results. Required to work overtime when needed.
