Carpenter Jobs
A carpenter's job is to saw, shape, and, fasten wood to build houses and other buildings. A carpenter also builds cabinets, doors, and other objects made of wood, and works on a construction site, inside buildings, in factories, and in small woodworking shops. A carpenter uses both power and hand tools, such as hammers, saws, drills, and chisels, and fastens wood with nails, screws, bolts, and glue. A rough carpenter works outdoors where he/she begins projects using unfinished wood and other building materials. Responsibilities include framing houses, building scaffolding, and making forms to be filled with concrete. A finish carpenter is mostly involved in cutting and fitting doors, windows, and interior molding. Building and installing cabinets, and laying hardwood floors may also be part of the job.
A high school diploma is preferred but not required for the job of a carpenter. Courses in woodworking, mechanical drawing, and mathematics may be helpful. A formal apprenticeship is an advantage.
